Self-care is subjective: For one person, it might mean muting Uncle Jack’s political Facebook posts. For another person, it might mean never missing their therapy appointment. And for another person, the ultimate act of self-care might be watching the Notebook for the 1,000th time. (Hey, this is a judgment-free zone. And like I said: It’s subjective.)
But then there are small acts of self-care that are a bit more universal: making a nourishing warm stew on a blisteringly cold day; dancing your Friday night away (and soaking in the endorphins that come with it); treating yourself to a mid-week yoga class. Find all of those ideas, plus more, below to make your week a little bit better!
Steal this morning routine! City Fitness’s Ali Stauffer, vice president of marketing, shared what a week in her life looks like with Be Well Philly, and her morning jade rolling routine is something to be admired. (And copied, if you’re smart.) Same goes for her lifting routine and her lax perspective on workout and nutrition. Do it.
Warm up with this infamous stew: Alison Roman is known for breaking the Internet with her recipes, but this stew—a turmeric, coconut, chickpea masterpiece—is one of the most talked-about. Getting it just right requires some diligence (i.e. don’t just dump everything into a pot and hope for the best—follow the instructions), but the end result is well worth the effort. Pairs best with your favorite cozy blanket and a Netflix show. Do it.
If you’re feeling that mid-week slump (hey, it happens to the best of us), it’s prime time to rewire. Spend 30 minutes of your lunch hitting the reset button on your mind at Kristen Palone’s 1:00 PM meditation class at City Fitness Logan Square. Refresh your headspace and still have time to pick up lunch on your way back to the office. Do it.
Cozy up by a fireplace. The couch planted in front of Mulherin’s wood-burning fireplace is one of the best dinner seats in the city, especially on a blustery week like this one. And it just so happens to be a block from our Fishtown location. So squeeze your workout in, then settle down in front of the flames for a plate of pasta. Do it.
Dance it out and call it your workout! If dancing to throwback jams until the wee hours of the morning isn’t self-care, tell me, what is? And lucky for all of us, the Dolphin in South Philly is hosting a throwback night with music from the 80s, 90s and 2000s on Friday. Do it.

Get some green in your life. The streets of Philly are grey AF right now, so if you could use some green therapy, you’re not alone. Head to Vault + Vine to sip on coffee surrounded by plants—and maybe take one home with you. Do it.
