How to: The Perfect Smoothie

There is more to a smoothie than you might think. A perfect smoothie has a balance of carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats and fiber. It should also have at least one serving of vegetables! You may think it’s impossible to master, but I have the perfect formula plus a few delicious recipes.

2 Simple Steps is All You Need for the Best Smoothie

1) Start With a Base

My favorite things to use are milk (of your choice) or Greek yogurt. Both options should provide you with at least 8 grams of protein per cup. You could even mix the two as your base. For extra protein, you can always add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. You can get creative with your fruit add-ins. Try a tropical mix, a berry mix or a combination that pairs well with greens.

2) Hiding a Few Vegetables

Pro tip: frozen riced cauliflower makes your smoothie super smooth. If you’re making a green smoothie, add some kale and spinach. You can even add a handful of kale or spinach to a berry smoothie to hide the flavor. Beets are another fun vegetable to use especially if you want to make it pink! Get creative and think about adding sweet potatoes, zucchini or squash. The finisher is adding healthy fats. My favorites are ground flax, chia seeds, peanut or almond butter or avocado.
